Sherry Chaney has dedicated her life to service — both in the classroom and in the community. With a career rooted in education and the service industry, Sherry's life has been a testament to the power of hard work and helping others. Sherry understands the value of hard work, compassion, and leadership. Now, she’s equiped to bring that same commitment and dedication to Hampton’s City Council and the community.
Sherry is running because she believes life in Hampton shouldn’t be this hard. From broken systems to lack of SMART progress, she knows our city deserves better. As your City Councilwoman, Sherry will fight to build a local government that works, and is affordable to live for everyone — one that listens, responds, and delivers results with integrity.
Recognized as a examplary leader, Sherry was a "Mentor Teacher" and “Highlighted Teacher” at the KIDazzle Childcare at Atlanta Air Traffic Control Center in Hampton, Sherry is member of the Board at the Atlanta Air Traffic Control as a teacher liasion and community member. Sherry has a proven track record of excellence, leadership and community impact.
Born and raised in Middle Georgia, Sherry is a proud product of public schools, where she played softball, basketball, and was a member track and field team. Also, Sherry coached Recreational youth girls softball and basketball. Sherry's academic journey includes a Bachelor of Science in Social Science and a minor in Special Education from Mercer University.
Sherry husband Dwayne, a retired Army E-8 veteran. Together, share four children — Michael Jr. (preceded in death), Jessica, Eboni, and Amya — and are proud grandparents to six grandchildren. Their family also includes two beloved toy poodles.
